Exploring the Science of Food, Wine and the Renaissance in Italy

The CFANS & CEHD Alumni Global Learning Adventure is an amazing way to experience and learn about different cultures. The November 2019 program takes you on an eleven day journey through the most spectacular areas of Italy: Cinque Terre, Piedmont, Venice, and the Veneto region. Taste local olive oils, tour renowned wineries, stroll through ancient streets, and get a taste of Italian culture. The program fee is $4190. Click here to reserve your spot!

Itinerary | November 1 - 11, 2019

Day 1

Depart for Italy.

Day 2

Arrive in Levanto, check-in, get settled, and enjoy a welcoming aperitivo.

Day 3

Take the train to Vernazza, a scenic costal town in Cinque Terre, and spend the morning exploring on foot. Board the train to Manarola and lunch at one of its delicious restaurants. Lastly, you’ll train to Riomaggiore, where you’ll enjoy a wine tasting and wine history seminar with the renowned wine maker Walter De Battè. Group dinner of Ligurian food.

Day 4

Travel by private bus to Genoa. Experience a walking tour of the largest medieval city center in Europe, as well as free time for sightseeing. Visit the oldest confectioner's and chocolate shop in Italy, Pietro Romanengo, where we will see how the master chocolatiers work using traditional techniques and sample their products.

Day 5

Enjoy an Extra Virgin Olive Oil visit at the Levanto olive press—with tasting! A private bus will take you to Bra in the Langhe region of Piedmont. Take a seminar at the headquarters of the Slow Food international association, followed by visit at a Slow Food butchery specializing in Piedmontese beef. Dinner at the original Slow Food osteria: the legendary Boccon Divino.

Day 6

Ride a private bus to a winemaker in the Barolo region, learn about Barolo and other wines, and sample their products. Enjoy lunch at the winery. After lunch, transfer to Alba for a stroll through the beautiful center of town, with the possibility of shopping for their world-famous truffles.

Day 7

Private bus transfer to Turin.  Explore the original capital of Italy, a gorgeous and refined city. Stroll through the streets on a guided walking tour in the morning and then enjoy a free to visit the sites.

Day 8

Board a private bus to Venice. On our way there, we will stop for a gorgeous guided walking tour of the Roman Arena, the great medieval piazzas, and other historical sites. Continue on to Venice and check in at the hotel.

Day 9

Explore Venice with a guided walking tour in the morning, followed by a 30-minute Gondola ride. In the afternoon, take a boat tour to Burano, the island with multicolored facades. Here we will meet with the old fishermen's cooperative, which has been active since 1896.  Enjoy a farewell group dinner of Venetian food.

Day 10

Take a private bus to Valdobbiadene, the region famous for Prosecco wines. Visit a producer and their villa from the 1600s. Winery visit followed by lunch and wine tasting.Enjoy a free afternoon in Venice.

Day 11

Say arrivederci to Italy! Depart for the States.
